The Graduation of your homeschooled son or daughter is a momentous occasion and worthy of celebration. NCHE invites you to commemorate the occasion with your family and with your community of Home-based Educators, living in North Carolina and abroad. The NCHE Annual Conference is the perfect time to recognize the accomplishments of your son or daughter.
The NCHE Graduation Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 5:00pm at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem, the location of the annual NCHE Conference. The ceremony should last approximately one hour. Students may invite a reasonable number of guests, to be indicated on the application form. The graduate’s attire must be the NCHE hunter green gown and cap with gold tassel (purchased in the grad package). A cap and gown from a previous NCHE graduate may NOT be used. Failure to comply with the dress code forfeits ceremony participation. With the exception of the NCHE Honor cord, graduation accessories are not allowed. Ceremony participants will receive their cap and gown and additional information by mail two to three weeks prior to the ceremony.
The NCHE Graduation Program is offered to homeschool students graduating during the current school year. Applicant families must be NCHE members at the time the student graduates. The application must be submitted by March 1, 2013. Students may elect to participate in the full graduation program or individual program options.
Discounted pricing is provided for families who qualify for the NCHE Long-Standing Member Program. To qualify for this discount, the applicant’s family must meet the following requirement:
- NCHE membership three out of the last four years at the time the student graduates. (If the student began homeschooling during high school, the requirement is membership two out of the last three years.)
NCHE prints a distinctive homeschool diploma enclosed in a hunter green cover. This diploma includes the student’s name, school name, and graduation date. The homeschool chief administrator will be responsible for signing the diploma to certify that the student has completed high school. Students who are participating in the NCHE graduation ceremony will be awarded the diploma by their parents. The NCHE office will mail diplomas by May 15, 2013 to students not participating in the ceremony. You will need to know your graduate’s graduation date when ordering a diploma unless your graduate is participating in the NCHE graduation ceremony.
Recognition in the GREENHOUSE
Recognition in the GREENHOUSE Special Graduate Issue
The GREENHOUSE will publish a special issue in May that celebrates our high school graduates. To be included, you will need to submit your graduate’s recognition paragraph/bio and photo (photo optional). You also have the opportunity to purchase a ½ or full page ad in the issue and to order extra copies of this issue for your family and friends.
Submit online, or email to email@example.com, or by mail a hard copy with graduate form to the NCHE office.
The recognition paragraph/bio must start with the graduate’s name, and it is recommended that your first sentence follow a form similar to: Graduate’s name, son/daughter of Parent(s) Name(s) of City, graduates after homeschooling for # years.
The GREENHOUSE editor maintains the right to edit submissions.
We only allow updates to future plans, and they may be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org by March 30, 2013
The photo must be a head shot of the graduate.
Photo size requirement—The head shot must be a minimum of 300 dpi, when sized to 1 in. x 1.2 in. If the file is a jpg or jpeg it should be a minimum of 100 kb, and if it’s an uncompressed tif or tiff file, it should be a minimum of 1.3 mb. You do not need to crop to this size; we will do that for you. If the photo needs cropping, which most will, send the highest possible resolution you can. When in doubt, send the original photo. If the photo copyrighted, a permission letter from the photographer must be included with the photo. A paper copy of the photo may be submitted via U.S. mail, or a digital image may be submitted online or via email. If emailed, you must include the graduate’s name in the subject line of the email.
GREENHOUSE Graduate Ad
To offer an opportunity to celebrate your graduate’s accomplishments in a bigger way, we are selling ½ page and full page ads to our graduate families or support groups at a much reduced price from our normal advertising rates. You can choose to design your own ad and submit as a PDF/JPG/TIF, or we can design it for you.
Download the Graduate Issue Info Sheet and Form (PDF) for complete information. Email completed ad or pictures and text for the ad to be designed to email@example.com.
Announcements and Name Cards
Name cards, with your graduate’s name, and matching envelopes will be included for each announcement in your order.
Announcements and name cards are only available to graduates participating in the NCHE Graduation Ceremony at the NCHE Annual Conference. They are available in multiples of 20.
If your senior is graduating with a 3.75 GPA or higher, you can recognize his achievement with a gold honor cord to be worn during the graduation ceremony. They will be mailed with the cap and gown.
